“Inspired by the art of Kehinde Wiley, I wanted to subtly show how black people have become premium fertilizer because we have been killed and buried en masse unjustly. But flowers growing out of dirt are things of beauty. No matter how many times we are buried, we will grow conspicuously until our voices are heard. But it is also a message of peace and love, the figures appearing to meditate on why they have blossomed into flower.”
